We just heard about the results from yesterdays 15th Annual Pt. Pleasant Elks Fluke Tournament, and we are very happy to hear that Captain Anthony Belisario of the Great Kills based charter boat Barbara Anne, who was fishing on board the MISS LYNN, swept the top prizes in the biggest fluke tournament of the 2009 season!
They won the 32,000 dollar top prize for a fluke of over 13lbs, and had numerous big fluke over 8 lbs yesterday.
Not good drifting conditions and we muddled around for a good part of the morning actually wishing for the south wind. We started fishing with alot of company but most left the area with the lack of keepers coming up.We got the south wind we knew was coming and the fish started to chew. Bobber set the hook on a bite and said "That's All Fish, Baby". 3 minutes later as Centaur netted his fish and flopped it on the deck Bobber uttered "Game Over". 31.5" x 12.8 - 13.0 on the hand held scale. We continued to fish until 1:30 then drove back from Elberon to weigh in the fish. Inlet was fierce and crowded as was inside the river. Weighed in @ 12.9! Drove the boat back to Belmar then hit the picnic.
Things I learned today:
1. Bouncing 5# fluke off the gunnel and losing them doesn't bother you as much when you've already got a bigger fish in the box.
2. "Was it a good fish?"............"2 pounds" Is funny EVERYTIME it happens.
3. "they'll bite HERE sooner or later"
4. "I drink alot of water" is an understatement
5. Getting a calcutta in the form of a check sucks
6. A cannoli for breakfast for everyone on the boat is good luck
7. "Typical XXXXs Fish" is funny..........over and over!
We wound up with 16 or 17 keepers; 12.9, 8.0, 7.85, 5.8, 5.6 5.0 and some nice 3 and 4 pounders.
First Place $4,500.00
