2010 SEA BASS SEASON EXTENSION

I did not want to post anything on till I heard from a source about the black sea bass season being extended for this year. From what I have been told, the season will be extended for 90 more days and will consist of these time periods for the recreational / for-hire industry for 2010:

OPEN - MAY 22nd - OCTOBER 15th

CLOSED - OCTOBER 16th - OCTOBER 31st

OPEN - NOVEMBER 1st - DECEMBER 31st

Capt. Adam Nowalsky reports that the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission met on Tuesday and approved a revised black sea bass of May 22 to Oct. 1 and then from Nov. 1 to Dec. 31.

The reason for the revised sea bass season was that 2009 landings data show a lot fewer black sea bass were caught than NMFS had estimated.

Each state will have to approve the new sea bass season. Size and bag limits will remain the same
