Recreational and commercial fishermen will be demonstrating on vessels off Martha's Vineyard on August 26

Recreational and commercial fishermen will be demonstrating on vessels off Martha's Vineyard on August 26 to direct President Obama's and the national media's attention to the severe negative impacts of the policies and attitudes of the people in control of NOAA/NMFS on recreational and commercial fishermen and on the businesses that depend on fishing. The press release below explains what the demonstration is all about.

If you agree with the purpose of the demonstration, and if you are still committed to making federal fisheries management as fisherman-friendly as it is fish-friendly, please take the time to go to http://fs16.formsite.com/FixMagnusonNow/form683807020/index.html?1282743543045, fill in the on-line petition and, following the instructions at the bottom of the page, send it directly to the White House (or send your own message, if you think that more appropriate). And then please remember to go back to the petition and submit it.

This is a simple process, requiring at most 5 minutes. Taking another step to address the train wreck the federal fisheries management has been turned into is surely worth that much of your time, isn't it?

The petition will be up at least through September. Please get as many other interested people as possible to sign on. Your future on the water - and your ability to fish - depends on it.

Thank you very much.
Nils Stolpe

Barbara Anne Offshore Seabass Trips on tap for the month of September!

Dear Friends,

Starting on Monday, August 20th, the Barbara Anne will be running its first 30-mile wreck trip. We will then be sailing these special wreck trips every week for a month straight (refer to the schedule below). The targeted species will be cod, ling and sea bass. These trips will depart approximately 3:30 am and return to the dock 4:00pm. The cost of these trips will be $199.00 with tip included in the fare. All bait, tackle, rods and ice included in the price in addition to soft drinks for the entire group. This is a time of year when all species start to migrate into deeper water as these wrecks can really hold some quality fish.. Rest assured, there will be a host of different species to bring home to the table. Now with this area again populated by codfish, this will add some exciting element to the bottom fishing game in both table fare and sport. Come join us for this exciting new schedule, as you wont be disappointed!

The following is a list of dates we will be running these special wreck trips. Of course, all trips are weather dependant and will only be cancelled at the captains’ discretion.

Depart Arrive

8/30 Mon 3:30am 4:00pm
9/6 Mon 3:30am 4:00pm
9/13 Mon 3:30am 4:00pm
9/20 Mon 3:30am 4:00pm
9/27 Mon 3:30am 4:00pm

As a side note, please remember we will be sailing for fluke on a n RSA basis daily except for days when we are running offshore wreck trips. This permit will allow us to during the closed season (Sept. 7th – whenever our quota is met), to keep 4 fish per person between 17-20 in for the table. The cost of these trips will be $130.00 pp on a split charter/open boat basis. These are by reservation only.

OFFSHORE 30-MILE RUNNING REPORTS:

September 6th: Trip cancelled because of Hurricane

9/11/10

Our first 30 mile offshore wreck trip proved to be a great success! We had 80 seabass to 5lbs, codfish to 10 lbs and ling to 3-4 lbs. We fished in different area ranging from 90 ft to 195 ft. Our next set of trips is on tap for 9/20and 9/27; weather permitting.

9/26/10

We returned from our 2nd Offshore wreck trip and was not dissappointed. The only disappointment was the weather in which they called for 2-3 ft seas with 3-5's being the norm. The wind was supposed be north east 10-15 . More along the lines of 15-20 all day. On to the rewards for our efforts. We had over 100 ling between 3-4 lbs(almost identical size wise to the last trip), 15 cod up to 14 lbs, 50 cbass up to 3.5 lbs, 4 winter flounder, 2 fluke and a few tog. Just a great day!.

10/8/10

We were finally able to sail on our 3rd offshore wreck trip and the fishing was less than stellar with cross currents all day. Their was very good life on all wrecks but evrything seemed to shrink. We fished 12 different wrecks and just couldnt put it together. The moon and the the northeast blow really quelled the offshore fishing. We ended the day with 75 seabass , a handful of ling, 1 tog and no cod.

We have been able to get out on 2 out of the 4 trips and both proved to be successful. These trips have really been a big success with you guys and the interest has made me consider a schedule for the month of October which should be an even better month with fall migration underway. We possess the RSA Permit for seabass. There will be NO SEA BASS CLOSURE for the BARBARA ANNE.

Here is the following schedule of upcoming trips (12 HR Wreckathons) Super Sundays and Wednesdays
